Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is this redress matter about?

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is a federal government agency that enforces laws that protect consumers. The CFPB took enforcement action against Driver Loan, LLC, and Angelo Jose Sarjeant. The CFPB alleged Driver Loan violated the Consumer Financial Protection Act by misrepresenting the risks associated with the deposit product it offered to consumers and misrepresenting the annual percentage rates associated with extensions of credit it offered to other consumers.

  2. What is the case status?

We began mailing checks to harmed victims in this matter on January 28, 2025.

If you did not receive a check and believe you are a victim, you have an opportunity to provide us your mailing address in this Address Form so we can confirm your eligibility. Unless you did business under a different name with Driver Loan, only consumers who did not receive a check are eligible to file an Address Form.

We are currently accepting Address Form submissions. The deadline to file an Address Form is February 28, 2025.

  4. Is this a scam? How do I verify this is legitimate?

Epiq can verify your check is real and a part of the CFPB’s distribution. Call us at 888-884-6031 during business hours 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday, except Federal Holidays.

You can verify that Epiq is contracted with CFPB by calling CFPB directly at 855-411-2372 or visiting their website: https://www.CFPB.gov/payments/DriverLoan. To learn more about CFPB and other CFPB matters, please visit https://www.consumerfinance.gov. If you enter “Driver Loan” into the search box, you can read CFPB announcements about this case.

Always be mindful that bad actors can attempt to scam consumers into providing sensitive information or money in exchange for funds from this or other distributions. This scam may look like:

    • A company or individual claiming they can “help” you receive a check, money, a giftcard, or funds in some other form, provided you send them a preloaded giftcard or money in advance. This is likely a scam.
    • A company or individual asking you for any banking details or credit card numbers to issue you a check in this matter. This is likely a scam.
    • A company or individual claiming they can help expediate the mailing of your check from this distribution. This is likely a scam.
    • A company or individual asking you for your social security number or your date of birth. Although you do need to provide proof of identity to us when completing an address form, you do NOT need to provide your social security number or your date of birth; and the CFPB is NOT collecting social security number or any date of births in this matter. If someone asks you for your social security number or your date in birth related to an issuance of a check in this matter, it is likely a scam.

Neither the CFPB nor Epiq will ever require you to pay any fees before or after cashing a check issued by CFPB. If someone asks you to pay them money related to a refund check in this case, it could be a scam. More information on spotting scams is available on the CFPB’s website, https://www.consumerfinance.gov/about-us/blog/beware-of-new-cfpb-imposter-scams/

For security reasons, we cannot reissue a check until either you return the original check to us, the US Postal Service returns it to us as undeliverable, or the original check’s stale date has passed or expired.

We reissue checks in batches on a rolling basis throughout the year. Unfortunately, we cannot provide a specific date your reissued check will be mailed. We thank you for your patience.
